A Peaceful Prayer Obligations of a Muslim

The importance of prayer in Islam cannot be understated. It is the first pillar of Islam that the Prophet (peace be upon him) mentioned after the testimony of faith, by which one becomes a Muslim.

Muslims are required to pray five times a day.

It was made obligatory upon all the prophets and for all people. Allah has declared its obligatory status under majestic circumstances. For example, when Allah spoke directly to Prophet Moussa (Moses),

He said,
"And I have chosen you, so listen to that which is inspired to you. Verily, I am Allah! There is none worthy of worship but I, so worship Me and offer prayer perfectly for My remembrance." [Taha 13-14]

Similarly, the prayers were made obligatory upon Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during his ascension to heaven. Furthermore, when Allah praises the believers, such as in the beginning of surah al-Muminoon, one of the first descriptions He states is their adherence to the prayers.

The importance of prayers lies in the fact that no matter what actions one performs in his life, the most important aspect is one’s relationship to Allah, that is, one’s faith (imaan), God-consciousness (taqwa), sincerity (ikhlas) and worship of Allah (`ibaadah).

This relationship with Allah is both demonstrated and put into practice, as well as improved and increased, by the prayer. Therefore, if the prayers are sound and proper, the rest of the deeds will be sound and safe; and if the prayers are not sound and proper, then this will affect the rest of the deeds.

Muslims, individually or as a group, are obligated to perform their prayers wherever they may be. Allah has made it easy for his worshippers. However, it’s extremely important that Muslims wear proper prayer clothes while performing their daily prayers.

Following are a few items that could make your daily salat (prayer), a peaceful one.

PRAYER MAT

Wherever you may be, a muslim has to perform his prayers in a prostrate position. They kneel and recall the revelation of the Quran and strengthen a sense of belonging to islamic belief and submission to Allah.

For a comfortable prayer, a prayer mat is essential. There is a huge variety of prayer mats available in the marketplace, as they are gaining popularity these days.

Not only are they comfortable, but they are a nice piece to make you feel just that bit happier when praying. This is just one of the many styles of prayer mats:

SARUNG

Amongst the many prayer clothes that a muslim man needs specifically, a sarong or sarung should definitely be one of them. It is essentially a long tube of fabric, often wrapped around the waist. It is mostly worn in the Indian subcontinent, the Arabian Peninsula, Southeast Asia, East Africa and on many Pacific islands. Sarung often has woven checkered or plaid patterns or are coloured brightly with batik or ikat dyeing. Many modern sarungs come with printed designs, often representing plants. Different types of sarungs are worn in different places in the world. The izaar in the Arabian Peninsula is the most notable form.

The miswak is known to have antibacterial properties that prevent the formation and control activity of dental plaque. So, they are often used as a natural toothbrush for teeth cleaning by muslims around the globe. Such natural sticks are harmless, extremely effective, less expensive and commonly available. Miswak features visibly in islamic hygienic jurisprudence, meaning every muslim should use it before their daily prayer. Here’s a collection of miswaks you can check out:

TASBEEH

Lastly, every muslim would need a tasbeeh as part of their dhikr. It is a form of dhikr that requires muslims to say the repetitive short sentences in the worship and glorification of Allah by saying Subanallah, Alhamdulillah and Allahu Akbar. You keep track of your counting either by the phalanges of the right hand or by using a misbaha.

You could use your hand, but tasbeehs give that feel good vibe and are motivating to use when they look that good. Look for yourself on our instagram page:

Salat is a type of purification for a muslim. He turns and meets with his Lord five times a day. As alluded to above, this repeated standing in front of Allah should keep the person away from performing sins.

Furthermore, it should also be a time of remorse and repentance, such that he earnestly asks Allah for forgiveness for those sins that he committed. The prayer in itself is a good deed that wipes away the evil deeds that he performed. As a muslim, a perfect prayer should bring all peace to the soul.

Bring yourself peace, just pray.
